NDT – Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection is an Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technique that detects surface and sub-surface imperfections on ferromagnetic materials. Test parts are magnetised and any surface flaws are shown via local magnetic flux leakages.

MPI can be performed using either wet or dry magnetic particles, which are applied after the test part has been magnetised. Any flaws that are present will attract these particles to the area causing a visible build up, which is easily analysed under ultraviolet light.
