Corrosion

Corrosion is the deterioration of a metal caused by its reaction with its environment. In the context of surface treatments, corrosion is a major problem that can be prevented or slowed down by using various methods.

There are many different surface treatments that can be used to prevent or slow down corrosion. Some of the most common methods include:

  • Passivation: This is a process that creates a protective layer on the surface of the metal. The protective layer can be made of oxide, nitride, or other compounds.
  • Plating: This is a process that deposits a layer of a different metal on the surface of the metal. The deposited metal can be more corrosion-resistant than the base metal.
  • Painting: This is a process that applies a layer of paint to the surface of the metal. The paint can provide a barrier between the metal and the environment, which can help to prevent corrosion.

Surface treatments can be an effective way to prevent or slow down corrosion. However, it is important to choose the right method for the specific application. It is also important to maintain the surface treatment properly to ensure that it continues to be effective.
