Hardness testing is used to confirm the properties of a material will conform to the standards required for its use. Hardness testing can be an easy, quick and economic measure that can be performed on a variety of materials and sizes.

Indenting the test piece with a diamond pyramid with a certain load and the hardness is calculated based on the imprint left behind.

Rockwell hardness test

Uses either a steel ball or diamond as an indenter and the imprint is measured. There are different scales for Rockwell hardness based on the test force and the type of indenter used.
