TARTARIC SULPHURIC ACID ANODISING
Tartaric Sulphuric Acid anodising (TSA) is typically 5 – 7µm thick. It is typically used as a pre-treatment to aerospace and defence paint systems and as a key alternative to Chromic acid anodising, as tartaric sulphuric acid anodising conforms with the latest REACH regulations.
In comparison to chromic acid anodised surfaces, TSA gives a slightly coarser grain structure, with additional surface porosity. It provides the optimum adhesion for subsequent paint priming without compromising corrosion protection. Our TSA carried out to AIPI 02-01-003, on rotating bar tests, have shown that the fatigue life of TSA treated aluminium samples is identical to that produced after chromic acid anodising.
Poeton worked with Airbus to be a pioneer of the tartaric acid anodising process and the first approved supplier to Airbus in the UK. Our facilities comply with AIPI 02-01-003 and BS EN 4704. We now carrying out the process at the two sites in the UK and in Poland. Each facility also supports this process with both NDT operations, paint facilities and automated part marking.
