Cadmium and LHE Cadmium

Cadmium and
LHE Cadmium

Cadmium plating is an electrolytic process that deposits a layer of cadmium onto the surface of the substrate. Cadmium plating provides corrosion protection by its unique ‘sacrificial’ action. When applied as a coating on steels or other structural metals, it corrodes preferentially and the substrate remains undamaged, even if the coating is scratched.

Cadmium coating is applied with a thickness of between 5 and 25µm and its own corrosion rate is one fiftieth of that of steel. Cadmium plating is however limited to uses within aerospace and Defence, due to the known health issues associated with cadmium. Poeton have therefore registered with the appropriate authorities to enable us to carry on plating Cadmium for as long as possible.

Poeton also offers Zinc Nickel as an alternative to cadmium plating.
