Thermal spray capabilities on show at open day

The Poeton Thermal Spray department held a customer open day to showcase their improved capabilities. The thermal  team, based at the Gloucester site, invited a host of customers to discover the improvement journey including a tour of the newly revamped facility.

Chairman, Anthony Poeton, opened the event by reflecting on the history of the thermal spray facility. Anthony described how the building was originally used to process Formula 1 engine components before being converted into a thermal spray centre after a change in F1 regulations.

Conservative candidate for Gloucester, and champion of business within the region, Richard Graham, was welcomed to address the audience. He began by praising the work of all Gloucestershire businesses within the UK aerospace industry before specifically paying tribute to the growth and innovation he has seen at Poeton since first visiting over 10 years ago.

The event allowed the thermal spray team to display the improvement journey the division has been on this year. Over 25 customers were in attendance, including from Rolls-Royce and Safran, and able to witness how the facility has been transformed. The building layout has been redesigned to better utilise the space, lean manufacturing techniques have been implemented and equipment upgraded to ensure Poeton can offer world class levels of quality and service.

Thermal spray is seen as a growth area, with an increasing number of manufacturers employing it as a key surface treatment option. Not only is it seen as a long-term replacement for chrome plating in the aerospace sector, it is also utilised within food production, packaging and medical industries to improve wear and corrosion characteristics.
