Maximise Your Aluminium – Two New Anodising Ranges from Poeton
October 1, 2021
With over 60 years of anodising experience, the surface treatment experts at Poeton know which anodising will maximise your aluminium. Whether it be sulphuric acid anodising for anti-corrosion properties and durability, hard anodising for wear resistance, or tartaric sulphuric acid anodising as a chrome-free option, anodising has the ability to elevate aluminium into a material capable of performing in the most challenging of environments.
And now, our Research & Development engineers have created two brand new composite anodising ranges, offering unique properties for specialist applications.
Firstly, the Apticote 340 range has been introduced, with two coatings both comprising a base of sulphuric acid anodising.
Apticote 340ER produces a coating with exceptional electrical resistance. An innovative topcoat is used to seal the anodising so it resists at least 1.5kV of electrical current with the expectation that it will continue to perform above 5kV of current. This level of electrical protection is ideal for applications such as batteries, torque wrenches, cable trays as well as in train and rail systems.
Additionally, Apticote 340SC has been created to produce an anodising coating that maximises the level of wear resistance. Silicon Carbide particles, with a hardness of 2500Hv, form part of this coating, increasing its wear resistance.
On top of this, the Poeton research and development team have also introduced a new version of the ever-popular hard anodised polymer composite coating. Apticote 380D combines low friction, non-stick and wear resistance into one solution, outperforming similar coatings.
It offers superb properties, such as a coefficient of friction as low as 0.04, 92% lower than a standard hard anodised coating, providing benefits in a wide range of situations, including lower energy and torque requirements in moving pistons as well as in sliding or turning applications. Additionally, wear resistance testing of Apticote 380D shows a 70% improvement when compared to standard hard anodising, ensuring components will benefit from increased service life, reduced inspections, and less machine downtime.
