Installing the APTICOTE-ISIS system
System Requirements
Make sure your computer meets the following requirements for the APTICOTE-ISIS
system before you begin the installation.
- IBM(r) or 100% compatible AT, or PS/2 computer with an 80386 processor
or better (80486 preferred).
- 4MB or more RAM (8MB preferred).
- Microsoft(r) Windows 3.1 or higher operating with a superVGA screen
resolution of at least 800x600 (1024x768 preferred).
- MS-DOS(tm) 3.1 or higher (not required if using Windows95 or NT).
- A hard disk with 4MB free space.
- A mouse or other pointing device. NB: keyboard-only use of APTICOTE-ISIS
is not supported
If your system does not meet these criteria, APTICOTE-ISIS may still
operate, but it will be at less than maximum efficiency.
Beginning the installation
APTICOTE-ISIS must be installed to your hard disk by its own setup program.
The installation process must be done from within Windows(tm), as follows.
- Insert disk 1 in floppy drive A: or B:
- Choose Run from the Program Manager File menu.
- Type A:SETUP or B:SETUP (depending upon which disk drive you have
used) in the Command Line text box.
- Choose OK.
Choosing Full or Custom installation
You should normally select the full installation. If, however,
you know that you only need to replace certain components of the APTICOTE-ISIS
system (a file may have been accidentally deleted, for example), then
you can select a custom installation. This will allow you to specify
which components will be copied to your hard disk.
Selecting the Destination directory
The APTICOTE-ISIS setup program will allow you to select which directory
it will install the system into. Unless you have a good reason for
not doing so, you should just accept the suggested directory.
Creating a Program Manager group
If you wish, the APTICOTE-ISIS setup program will create a Program Manager
group for ISIS and any other Poeton applications. You can skip this
step if you wish, but if you do, you will have to use the File Manager
to run ISIS.EXE rather than just clicking on an icon.
Viewing the release notes file
When the installation is complete, the APTICOTE-ISIS setup program will
automatically launch Notepad to allow you to view the ReadMe.txt file.
This file contains details of any late changes to the APTICOTE-ISIS program
and any documentation errata. Don't be surprised if it is empty.
If there were no error messages during the setup process, then APTICOTE-ISIS
is now successfully installed on your system and ready for you to run
it. We recommend that you now follow the example consultation in
the next section as a quick tutorial in using APTICOTE-ISIS.
