Maxpower introduces engine upgrade for UK & Europe Motorcross market

The Aptec Motorsport Division of Poeton Industries is offering its high performance MaxPower engine cylinder upgrade to motorcross and biking enthusiasts in the UK and Europe, from Poeton's UK headquarters in Gloucester.

The technology, which will be offered initially for the Yamaha YZF250/450 and Honda CRF250/450 engines, is already well established in the US through Poeton's wholly owned MaxPower Inc subsidiary, a world leader in cylinder bore ceramic coating and finishing for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, karts and personal watercraft.

To achieve the performance upgrade cylinders are completely disassembled and the parts inspected for wear and documented. The original plating is chemically removed, the bores are cleaned to expose the aluminium casting and then mechanically prepared to the correct size.

The cylinders are then coated with MaxPower's exclusive Apticote 2000 nickelceramic bore coating, which allows engines to operate under the most demanding race conditions. The coating achieves exceptional wear resistance and extended cylinder life, superior oil retention up to 18,000 rpm, lower friction, improved resistance to scuffing and greater power output. It also allows modern 4-stroke engines to rev higher than 2-strokes.

Finally, cylinders are finished using the latest diamond honing technology and matched to new big bore pistons that have a heat reflective crown coating and a low friction skirt coating. Cylinder heads can also be modified to accept the larger displacement and can be flow bench tested and fitted with new valve seals. Carburettor and ignition upgrades are also available to complement these modifications.
