MAXPOWER LAUNCHES HIGH-PERFORMANCE HARLEY PISTON
The MaxPower division of surface technology specialist Poeton Industries has launched a range of high-performance aftermarket pistons for Harley Davidson V Twin engines.
The MaxPower Xtreme range is based on Wiseco forged pistons with an Apticote 420 molecularly bonded metallic coating on the domes and Apticote 200 on the skirts.
Besides increasing the hardness of the base aluminium from 32 to 45 Rockwell, the dome coating also provides superior anti-detonation protection, especially for the top land. It also enhances combustion properties by radiating heat back into the combustion chamber to increase combustion temperatures and significantly reduce carbon build-up.
The skirt coating, which also has superior wear and heat resistance, reduces friction on start-up as well as protecting pistons during the critical break-in period. It also wears rapidly in local areas to ensure that new pistons conform to the bore geometry at engine operating temperatures.
Other benefits of the new pistons, which allow engines to jet to the limit, include finer tuning, increased power, reduced fuel consumption and quieter running.
