Apticote Ceramic 2000 Coating
Apticote Ceramic 2000 is a metal matrix coating system specifically
developed for high performance automotive applications.

Apticote
Ceramic 2000 is unrivalled for coating the cylinder bores of engine
blocks or engine liners. The process has been especially tailored
to coat a variety of different base materials, viz. Aluminium, Steel,
Cast Iron, MMC's, Hyperutectic Alloys, etc.
Apticote Ceramic 2000 is made up of an oleofilic (oil loving) hard
metal coating, loaded with very small, ultrahard ceramic particles.
It has the ability to be finished in a variety of surface topographies.
Historically, the convention for final finishing
has been to achieve a cross-hatched, plateau-honed structure, the
objective being to hold an oil film, even at high revs. The oleofilic
nature of Apticote Ceramic 2000 coating allows very much finer finishes
to be obtained, whilst still achieving excellent oil retention.
That finer finish reduces the wear and pressure on piston rings,
the oil consumption and friction.
In a monitored trial, Apticote Ceramic 2000 coated Cast Iron V8
engine blocks gave five times the normal race life, with
dramatic reductions in piston and ring wear, oil consumption and
blow-by.
Quality Assurance
Well equipped metallurgical and chemical laboratories
monitor every aspect of the process and product.
Coating adhesion to the substrate is of particular
importance and is controlled using our advanced Thermal Wave scanning
equipment to examine the coating substrate interface for perfect
bonding.
Machining/Finishing

Investment
in state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, coupled with ultra
clean fitting bays, ensure bore finishing and size control to within
microns, facilitated by temperature-controlled workshops. Thin wall
cylinder liners down to 0.75mm wall thickness can be produced and
maintained round to exacting tolerances, either in steel, aluminium
or Super Alloy MMC/AlBeMet materials.
Match-Honing of cylinder liners and cylinder
blocks in as-assembled, torque-stressed conditions, including elevated
temperature honing up to 120°C, ensures a perfect seal for the piston
and ring pack as never before achieved. When carried out in combination
with the superb wear resistance of Ceramic 2000, maximum reduction
of oil loss blow-by and piston ring sealing is achieved from the
first revs to the last, with compression guaranteed.
Super-Fine Finishes, available to 0.05 Ra, ensure reduced
etching and friction, with variable angle cross-hatch pattern available.
A rapid delivery service, including design of liners, is available
as standard.
